Is curiosity a blessing or a curse for humans?

I believe that curiosity or a blessing or a curse I believe that is mostly a blessing because people who have curiosity are people who respect others. In the dictionary it states “ a strong desire to know or learn something : filled with curiosity, she peered through the window.” In the book Lord of the Flies, Simon and Ralph had a strong curiosity to push forward and build to being rescued. They also pushed forward and were nice to jack and learned what they could learn from his way of life. They showed curiosity through out the book. Another example was from the Brighter Side of Human Nature. When the people where giving blood they said that 83% of them would be willing to give bone merrow. They had the willingness and the curiosity to help someone out and learn; and they probably put themselves into someone else’s shoes and walked more than a mile. Curiosity is a blessing because with out us having curiosity we wouldn’t have that willingness to learn and strive to connect to others. Over all it is a blessing because we were given that willingness to learn.

Curiosity is a blessing because then you can find out more information. In Lord of the Flies when Simon got up after he fell unconscious he went to the top of the mountain in curiosity about the beast. He found out that is was a dead guy in a parachute and the wind was make the parachute blow out to make it look like it was alive in the dark. This is a good thing because e found out that there was no beast at all so then he wouldn’t have to worry about that anymore.

Curiosity

I think that curiosity is a human curse because in the Book Of Genesis, the snake tricks Eve to eat the fruit of the “knowing right from wrong” after god told them not to eat the fruit. Also Eve told Adam to try it and out of curiosity he had some. Then God got really mad that them and banished them from the Garden of Eden. Another reason is that, from the video, Roots to 9/11, the man went around and asked people in different places were they were bombed to and ask them what they felt of Americans, Who student said, “the US has been kicking Arabs butts for 50 years, so now it is pay back” but they still ended up saying, “It was still a terrible thing that happened on that day”. The last reason that curiosity is a human curse, is that many people think that Americans have rich blood so with curiosity the try to kill us but we do not think that this is from the Roots To 9/11. Curiosity is terrible to everyone and can drive people to do some pretty stupid things.

Is curiosity a blessing or a curse for humans? Curiosity is a curse for humans because Adam and Eve did have curiosity when they ate the fruit from the knowledge tree. After they ate the fruit, they could see themselves and what they looked like naked. This led to problems because God did not want them to know that because he wanted no sin.

Is curiosity a blessing or a curse for humans?

This is an interesting question posed seeing as the old saying goes it is curiosity that killed the cat. When you think bout it. The Story of Pandora. Where she opened the box and all the evils of the world were released. It would also make one think that curiosity would be a bad thing causing pain and suffering. Which is in a sense true seeing as it is curiosity that brings scientists to create weapons of mass destruction. And other creations that bring pain and suffering.

However many could easily argue that curiosity is a good thing that curiosity is what helps humanity, which in a sense is also true seeing as it is curiosity that’s helps doctors to peruse certain ideas for medicines that help humanity. And it is curiosity that leads people to sail around the world and back, which leads to finding new foods medicines and friends. When you think back to the book Lord of the Flies, where the children adventured around the island, which latter helped them.

In the end one cannot actually say whether curiosity is a good thing or bad but what is definite is that curiosity defines us as humans. Think about it how many other creatures sailed across the oceans how many other creatures have gone to space where they could see their home planet at her best. None. So we try to keep in mind that curiosity may be a good thing but if used for the wrong purpose could be the worst thing

Curiosity is a curse for humans because it gets humans into a lot of trouble. In Adam and Eve, curiosity led to them getting banished from the garden. They ate the fruit that God told them not to eat because they were curious. Once they ate it, Adam and Eve were aware of their appearance and how they looked. God was not happy because he didn’t want them to know this. Once they were banished, they had to work for their food. So, Curiosity led to something bad for humans.

I think in a way that human curiosity is a blessing. I also think that it can get you into a lot of trouble. On a good note though, our curiosity has paid off in many ways. In the “what makes us different” reading the scientist study Apps and begin to realize how smart they are. I think when our curiosity gets the best of us and we begin to question things. For example, in the “9/11 packet” the girl that wrote the blog was talking about how she remembered on February 13, 1991 the missiles were dropped on the Al-Mariah shelter. One of the big reasons we bomb most shelters in Iraq is because we are “curious” if they have bombs or any kind of weapons. In my mind this is why the war is lasting so long. My final conclusion is that curiosity can be a blessing if you are curious about the right things.

Curiosity
Is it a blessing or a curse?

I believe that curiosity is a curse. I think this because it gets humans into trouble. For example, around Christmas time, if you find one of your presents hidden under your parents’ bed. You know it’s there and just can’t seem to get it out of your mind. What could one little peek hurt? So you carefully take the tape off one end and slide the present out. Once you see what it is, you slide it back in and replace the tape. On Christmas day you open it up and are disappointed because it’s no longer a surprise. Have you ever heard the expression “curiosity kills the cat”? Well, it’s very true.
In the Greek creation myth, Pandora is so curious about the box that she opens it despite Zeus’ warning. She let out all the horrors that plague the world today- pain, sickness, envy, and greed. Curiosity may not have affected her directly but it did harm others. That’s even worse. All in all, I think that it sometimes is helpful, but most of the time it’s just a curse.

I believe that that curiosity is a blessing for humans because with out curiosity there wouldn’t be the world that we live in today. The majority of things that we have today are a result of curiosity by this I mean that most of the inventers would of not invented what they did with out wondering what would happen if they mixed these two things together or if they attached these two things. Do you think that the telephone would have been invented if someone didn’t wonder how sound waves move about through space and how to make them into a frequency that can travel through wires? I don’t think. And the cure to tons of sicknesses if someone didn’t think about what to do if they mixed these two liquids together. Probably not.

I think that curiosity is a curse because when we find things out; it isn’t always a good thing. Like for example, if you heard that your friend posted a blog online and they aren’t saying nice things, it was partly your fault because you brought it upon your self to look for the blog even though you knew it would be bad. Or like the very common saying “curiosity killed the cat”, is stating that the “cat” was so curious and went out on an “adventure” and it ended up killing him. Or in the article titled, “what makes us different, it said that most of the monkeys wouldn’t pull the chain because they didn’t want to hurt the other monkeys but some monkeys did and I think that was out of pure curiosity.

Is curiosity a blessing or a cures for Humans?
Being curious in a good thing and a bad thing.

Cures:
In Genesis God tells the man and woman not to eat from the tree in the middle of the garden, but they got curious after hearing what the serpent had to say about the tree saying that it would not kill them.

Blessing:
The first hominids didn’t know what anything was that was around them, so in there case, being curious is a good thing because it helped them created stone tools, find food, hunt, fish, and live. In Text Book.

I think that curiosity is a curse. The reason why I think it is a curse is because evidence from the Genesis showed that if Adam and Eve were not curious, they wouldn’t of eaten the apple that God instructed them not to eat. By eating the apple it made is so Adam and Eve “opened their eyes” and saw the difference between good and evil. If they didn’t open their eyes we (according to the Genesis) could see the good people and the evil people, which in the end, would of made the earth a more peaceful place. It would of made the earth more peaceful because when some countries go engage war, it’s because they are trying to stop some sort of evil, and if we didn’t see that evil we wouldn’t go to war for that reason. In the end by not going to war for that reason, it would reduce the amount of violence in the world, and made it a more peaceful place.

I think that it’s a blessing. The reason I think this is because curiosity is how new things can be discover and how we can advance over time

For why its a good ting is many of the most commonly used things today have something that was discovered out of curiosity. One of today’s greatest things is fire and I don’t think that millions of years ago a cave man wrote out an incredibly long equation saying that if he struck one stone with another he would create fire. Another thing is iron, steel and other metals. We wouldn’t have many of the things we have today if we hadn’t found out how to smelt ore into a material that we can shape into things like tools, buildings and weapons to defend ourselves with.

I think that curiosity is a curse for humans because it makes you stressed out and paranoid. If you want to know something but someone isn’t telling you or something like that then you get antsy and start getting mad. If it is your birthday or an event where you receive presents you normally don’t like to wait too long. You usually want to find out what is under the wrapping paper. That is why I believe curiosity is a curse instead of a blessing.

Is Curiosity a blessing or cures for humans?

I believe that curiosity is a blessing for humans. With out our curiosity things wouldn’t be the same. Almost all our inventions or luxuries today are a benefit of curiosity. For example inventions are all based the questions on can it be done, or how can I make this task easier. So in the end all our inventions are based on or curiosity. If you look at it like that it should be easy to say that curiosity is a blessing because without it we would most likely still be in the stone ages. We wouldn’t have light bulbs, computers, or cars. Just about everything we take for granted would be gone. That is why I think that human curiosity is a blessing.

Curiosity is a blessing for humans because it lead to great discovery’s. In the story Lord of the Flies for example, the boys would not have been rescued off the island had the boat not have been curious about all the smoke. Another example is the discovery of many places such as the Americas which might have not taken places had there been no curiosity. These discoveries were made by, people, such as Lewis and Clark. Finally technology and advancements would have not happened; therefore it is a blessing that humans have curiosity.

Curiosity is a blessing for human beings. Many great things have happened over curiosity alone. In fact, this great country wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for human curiosity. Explorers who first braved the ocean to seek out new lands and chart unmarked parts of the world all had curiosity. Curiosity played a huge role in why we even celebrate Columbus day. Curiosity is how we as a human race have advanced as a civilization since the beginning of our time. Every advancement has been from the curiosity of either one person or a group of people who sought the unkown to accomplish great things. Without curiosity nobody would care or bother to even think about what great things we could do if we tried.

A strong desire to know something or learn something, this is the meaning of curiosity. I believe that curiosity is both a blessing and a curse. In some circumstances you can get into trouble if you are curious, but in others you can achieve great accomplishments. We have many resources that wouldn’t be available to us, if we hadn’t have been curious. An example is when the monkeys pick up the reeds and pull off the leaves and put it into an ant hole. They were curious to see whether are not they would be able to access food and they were successful. A bad example of curiosity is when people bud into other peoples business and then they get into trouble when someone finds out.

Curiosity is a Curse. In the “Human Truths” packet there are many examples of this, one being in the “Pandora” story. Zeus gives Pandora the gift of curiosity. Pandora was made as a gift to Hermes and along with her he was sent a jar. The jar given to Hermes contained Spites. With Pandora’s gift of curiosity she was eager to open the jar, “on page 76 and 77 she says “I simply can’t go with out knowing what the inside of the jar is like.” With this she opens that jar and out comes the spites, fearsome noises and wild groans. In releasing these spites people now had the desire to hurt and annoy or offend someone. Another time that it is shown that Curiosity Is a curse is in the “Genesis” packet when Adam and eve are tempted by the Apple their curiosity gets to them and even though god told them not to eat the apple they did any ways, because they ate the apple against gods will they were punished and live the rest of their lives with curse. One more example of this would be in the story Pandora’s box. There is a box that contains evil given to Pandora by Hermes. Pandora's curiosity gets to her and she want to open the box and there for opens it, this makes all the evil spirits come out and enter the world. These are examples of how curiosity is a curse. When people are tempted by a certain object it is even harder to resist that temptation when curiosity is a factor.

To piggy back on what Emily said curiosity is a curse for humans. This is because humans tend to get in to a lot of trouble. One example of this is in the roots of 9/11. The man who walked around and asked people their oppeniens. One of the students said “the U.S. has been kicking our butts for over 50 years, so now it is our turn to kick theirs.” So, Curiosity led to something bad for humans.

I agree with madiandcliff when he/she says “I think that curiosity is a curse because when we find things out; it isn’t always a good thing. Knowing too much of something can be bad. Knowing too little of something can also be bad. So there for I believe that curiosity is a cure rather then being a blessing.

I agree and disagree with what madiandcliff said. It is true that finding somthing out that you are curious about can be a bad thing. An example of this would be in Gathering Blue by Louis lowery. Kira is very curious about what happened when her father died and also why her, Thomas, and Jo are all orphans with great skill in art. At the end of the book she finally finds out the truth. As it turns out both her parents were killed so the guardians could have her and her father wasn’t taken by the beasts he was beaten and tortured by Jamison, a man that Kira has trusted for the longest time. Curiosity can lead to bad things, sadness, or even revenge as discussed in Gathering Blue. However I disagree with her/his comment about the monkeys pulling the cord to shock the other monkey in “What makes us different”. I believe that the monkeys know full well what will happen if they pull the cord. They don’t pull it out of curiosity but pure morality. Overall madiandcliff did make a strong argument of why curiosity is a curse.

comment on "emily"'s post.

you make it seem as if curiosity is a bad thing. It can be a good thing also. I was watching a lifetime movie, and in the movie it had a curious father looking for his child. The child was locked up in a house that no one every occupied. The detective said that they shouldn't even bother checking the house for the child. But he insisted and they did. Guess where the kid was? In the house. The kid would of been blown to pieces if the father wasn't curious to look in the house. That proves that curiosity is a good thing, sometimes.

I agree 50% with what Jeffery said. Just like he stated, curiosity can lead into a lot of problems. I also agree with his example. If Adam and Eve did not have any curiosity then they would have not eaten the fruit and God wouldn’t have been mad at them or punished them. In a way though I also disagree with his opinion. If humans didn’t have curiosity the world would not nearly be as complicated as we are today. We wouldn’t have all the technology or the knowledge we have today

I agree with monkey because without the curiosity about fire and all of the other things that we learned about early on we wouldn’t be as far as we are in technology. If we hadn’t been curious about these things who knows how far behind we would be and how much longer all of the advancements would have taken. Going along with monkey on what they said that without us being curious we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we have with all of these advancements.

Garuthor said that curiosity is a blessing because in Lord of the Flies Simon finds out through curiosity that the beast is actually a dead man; how ever what he neglected to say it that Simon is killed by the tribe because he is running down the mountain top to tell the others about this discovery, there fore I disagree that this is an example of curiosity being a blessing because Simon died as a result of his curiosity.
