"Revenge is a confession of pain." - Latin proverb

Evaluate this statement using evidence from the texts we have studied this year.

Revenge
“Revenge is a confession of pain.”-Latin proverb

There are many reasons why I think revenge is a confession of pain. There are examples of this throughout history. If you are experiencing pain typically you are jealous of someone else or you are mad at him or her. This causes you to seek revenge. You would not have sought revenge had you not felt the pain. The first example is from “Baghdad Burning: Girl Blog from Iraq”. On February 13, 1991 missals were dropped on an Al-Amriyah shelter. Many women and children were killed. This caused excruciating amounts a pain throughout Iraq. The people of Iraq were forced to make countless sacrifices. They felt pain for a long time but would not admit it. The were “putting the event behind them”. On September 11, 2001 the sought there revenge on the U.S. “ A friend of E’s who lives in Amiriyah, was telling us about an American soldier he had been taking to the area. E’s friend pointed to the shelter and told him of the atrocity committed in 1991-. The soldier turned with the words, “Don’t blame me- I was only nine!” And I was only 11. This shows the pain the Iraqis felt for 10 years that never came out. It was finally expressed on September 11 when the U.S. was attacked. They cried for the fallen human not the Americans. Another example of this is from Genesis Chapter 4. The story of Cain and Able. Cain sought revenge on his brother Able because of the jealousy building up inside of him. He felt pain and that pain was expressed when he killed his brother.

“Revenge is a confession of pain”

I agree with the statement that revenge is a confession of pain because someone will go out of their way to hurt someone that hurt them. In Genesis, the story of Cain & Able, were God favors Cain over Able, and Able being the way he is, did not like the fact that God was favoring his brother over him. In revenge, Able killed Cain because of his pain that God caused him.

I agree with what leashleash said, because Iraq was holding their pain inside of themselves, and they got there pain out in revenge by bombing the United States. They felt that we had been kicking there butts for over 50 years and this is how they got there pain out by using revenge.
